be a patriot,

(whatever that is)

defend our country

(from whomever there is)

come back a hero

(whatever that means)

ride in the parade,

(one leg shot off)

have the people

(those who stayed behind)

wave in admiration,

(you’re a celebrity)

like you have done something,

(worthwhile?)

other than kill

(the nightmares begin)

and maim,

(that is the game)

provoking an enemy

to do the same.
